Alix Valenti is a maritime security analyst, defence journalist, and strategic communications specialist focused on naval affairs, ocean governance, emerging technology, and security policy. Based in Europe, she brings a European and transatlantic perspective to maritime security challenges across the Euro-Atlantic, Baltic-Arctic, Mediterranean, and Indo-Pacific theatres, with expertise in naval unmanned systems, critical underwater infrastructure, maritime domain awareness, civil-military maritime convergence, and the institutional adoption of emerging technologies at sea.

She is the founder of Defending Blue, an independent platform dedicated to maritime security, ocean governance, and maritime policy, and contributes to international defence and security publications including Shephard Media and Warsight. Alix has moderated high-level maritime defence and naval policy discussions, including at Euronaval and the Kiel International Seapower Symposium, and has chaired roundtables involving senior flag officers from multiple NATO member states.

Her work bridges strategic analysis and communications, translating complex naval, technological, and geopolitical issues into clear insight for government, industry, and policy audiences. Her field experience includes ceasefire monitoring in the Philippines and research on security-sector institution-building in East Timor. She holds a PhD in Development Planning from University College London, completed the national-level Session Nationale on Maritime Strategy and Challenges at France’s Institut des Hautes Études de Défense Nationale, and speaks French, English, Italian, and Spanish fluently.
